Magnificent Mayan Beach House in Tulum, Mexico
(February 2020) We were newcomers to Tulum so we did not know what to expect when we arrived at Casa Perla Del Mar. The house, the location and the destination exceeded our expectations on every level.
First, let's talk about the location. The house is located on a secure gated road south of Playa Del Carmen and just north of Tulum proper. Behind the house is jungle; in front of the house is Tankah Bay. Walk through the stone arch way and you parse ancient turtle nesting grounds on the way to the beach. On our first day, we walked for miles and wound up at a beach club and enjoyed cold beer, ceviche and beach chairs and tables to relax.
The house itself is a work of art and was obvious a labor of love for its owners. Local artwork covers the walls. Lovely tile work is in every room, inside and out including in and around your private swimming pool. The house is huge and we could have easily fit two families in it. The beds were comfortable and the linens and mattress quality were high end.
When you rent the house you can have one meal a day prepared for you. We picked out our menu each morning and each night came back after a day of adventuring to an authentic local cuisine - chicken mole, enchilada verde, ceviche and guac. Lots of guac.
Finally the destination of Tulum was also a treat. The house was walking distance to one of the best cenotes in the area and we enjoyed snorkeling there throughout the week. There are also lots of cabs at the end of the street which made it easy to go out and enjoy a night on the town in Tulum Beach. My husband chartered a fishing boat and guide in the biosphere and went bone fishing one day. We also visited nearby Mayan Ruins in COBA and Tulum.
If you want an above average accommodation in Tulum, Mexico in the Mayan Riveria, this is the place to go.

(August 2019) Just enjoyed an amazing and relaxing Girls Weekend at Casa Perla del Mar. Rustic elegance with all the modern conveniences. Impeccably clean, spacious and welcoming. Sargasso is on it's way out. Not anything like recent posts. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !!!!
Tranquil, Beautiful and Hard to Leave!
(January 2019) We were fortunate to spend Christmas at Casa Perla and it was a magical holiday. The home is beautiful with views of the sea in the front and the jungle in the back. We spent a lot of time up on the rooftop watching the sunset and enjoying the sound of the surf. The house is a work of art and there is plenty of room for a large family or three to four couples. The numerous balconies, lovely pool, well stocked kitchens make you feel right at home. You wouldn't ever have to leave - everything you need is available right there. The caretakers are lovely people and will prepare a meal for you if you would like. They made us the best enchiladas I have ever eaten! There are wonderful restaurants nearby and a cenote within walking distance. Victor, the owner is responsive and helpful. It was truly one of the best places we have ever stayed and we hope to return.

(April 2018) It is true, pictures don't do Casa Perla del Mar justice. No picture could quite possibly capture how the sun fills every crevice of the home in the morning, highlighting the beautiful Mexican art that decorates every corner. Or how the sea breeze flows through the home all day long. The comfortable beds and linens, the pool, hammocks, roof-top sunset and star-gazing, and those amazing balconies all make you feel like you're living a dream. Last but not least, Grey and Brandon helped make our trip unforgettable. Brandon fixed a broken door latch within minutes of us showing it to him. Grey was kind, thoughtful and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. And man, can she cook amazing breakfasts and dinners! Victor was so responsive to all our questions. We are so grateful for our time in his home! We truly left a piece of our heart there. A few more things to note: Casa Perla del Mar is about 25 minutes away from the Tulum hotels where a lot of the trendy restaurants and shopping are. If you are looking for an escape and to spend time with loved ones, this house is it! You definitely can't get it in the ocean near the house. We never made it to the swimming beach nearby. (And really weren't too sure how to find it.) However, we LOVED Cenote Manati down the road! And Casa Cenote is so fun and in a beautiful setting! We felt VERY safe in Casa Perla del Mar and in the neighborhood. We truly feel we had an authentic Mexican experience.
